Medunits melon — a mid-early variety with a vegetation period of 100-105 days, successfully grown both in open ground and under film coverings. The fruits have an oval shape with smooth yellow skin of medium thickness and a weight of 2 kg and more. The flesh is cream-yellow, dense, very tender, juicy, aromatic, and has a high sugar content, which gives it an excellent sweet taste.
This variety is valued for its high yield, excellent taste qualities, and good resistance to diseases, in particular to powdery mildew. Medunits is characterized by versatility in use: fruits are consumed fresh and also used for making oriental sweets, candied fruits, desserts, and original marinades. Thanks to good transportability and the ability to store for a long time, the melon retains its qualities during transport and storage.
For successful cultivation of Medunits, it is recommended to choose sunny areas with light, fertile soils, such as loamy and sandy. Seeds can be sown directly into the ground in warm regions in May or grown from seedlings at the end of April at a temperature of +20…+25°C during the day and +18…+20°C at night. Regular watering, fertilizing with an emphasis on potassium fertilizers, as well as soil loosening and weed removal are important. When growing in open ground, it is recommended to leave 3-4 flowers and pinch the top of the plant, while in greenhouses to form a bush into one stem with removal of side shoots up to 50 cm. A few weeks before harvesting, watering is reduced to improve the taste qualities of the fruits.
