Alfalfa Prosementi Bologna

Genetic Potential and Morphology

The Italian alfalfa variety "Prosementi Bologna" by Prosementi S.R.L. is the result of extensive breeding work by Prosementi, Ortolani Giuseppe, and Tasaco Tarim. The focus of this variety's development was on securing stable vegetative mass under intensive cultivation conditions. Plant height at full bloom ranges from 80 to 100 cm, an optimal range for mechanized harvesting and the production of high-quality haylage.

Cultivation Technicalities

A critical feature of "Prosementi Bologna" is its canopy architecture. The density and height of the stands allow for high productivity per unit area. For agronomists, it is important to recognize that this variety is adapted to the Italian management style of forage crops, which prioritizes rapid regrowth (regenerative potential) after mowing. The tall stem height requires precise timing of harvest to prevent excessive fiber lignification in the lower portion of the plant.

Practical Value for Forage Production

• Yield Stability: A tall growth habit reaching up to 100 cm provides the volumetric mass essential for forage profitability.
• Adaptability: The originators at Prosementi S.R.L. ensure strict adherence to documented characteristics when proper agronomic practices are applied.
• Raw Material Quality: Due to its genetically programmed developmental pace, the variety allows for multiple cuts per season without significant loss of plant vigor.

The application of "Prosementi Bologna" is well-suited for operations focused on high-protein feed production. The consistent height parameters (80–100 cm) minimize risks during header adjustment, ensuring a clean cut and minimal gathering losses.
