Description Gyuzel
The variable alfalfa variety 'Gyzel' is a high-yielding plant intended for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, and Ural regions. The plant is of medium height in the spring with a semi-erect, intermediate bush and leaves of medium-intensity green color. The central leaflet is characterized by medium length and width, and the time of onset of flowering is average. Flowers are predominantly blue-violet with a high frequency of mixed shades; however, cream, white, or yellow flowers are rare or absent. The stem is of medium length at full flowering. After the first cutting, the plant maintains medium height; after the second, it becomes low or of medium height, and after the third, it becomes low. The variety is distinguished by high dry matter yield: in the Volga-Vyatka region, the average indicator is 72.3 c/ha, which is 2.5 c/ha higher than the average standard, with a maximum yield of 135.2 c/ha achieved in the Perm region. In the Middle Volga region, the average yield is 51.5 c/ha, 1.5 c/ha higher than the standard, with a maximum value of 100.3 c/ha in the Republic of Mordovia. In the Ural region, the average yield reaches 30.6 c/ha, corresponding to the standard, while the maximum yield was 94.8 c/ha in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Protein content in the fodder mass varies from 16.6% to 18.7%, which exceeds the indicators of standard varieties, and the average protein harvest reaches 5.9–6.7 c/ha. 'Gyzel' is distinguished by high resistance to diseases and stress factors such as return spring frosts and drought during the growing season. The variety is characterized by higher bushiness, foliation, and dark green leaf color compared to previously created varieties. Thanks to numerous thin roots in the plow horizon, on which nitrogen-fixing bacteria actively settle, the variety possesses high symbiotic ability, which contributes to improved nutrition and plant growth. The fodder mass of the variety is rich in protein and carotene, making it valuable for feeding animals. Intensive regrowth after mowing ensures a stable supply of quality feed throughout the season.
