Agrotechnical Guidelines for Ksanstart

Ksanstart is a Dutch-bred lettuce variety (Enza Zaden Beheer B.V.) scheduled for official registration in Ukraine in 2026. As a population variety, it offers consistent genetic performance, making it a reliable choice for growers who prioritize stability in their crop rotation.

Planting and Spacing

• Timing: The variety performs best when sown in early spring or late summer. It is highly responsive to temperature fluctuations, so timing should be adjusted to avoid extreme heat during the rosette formation phase.
• Spacing: To achieve optimal leaf development and air circulation, a planting density of 10–12 plants per square meter is recommended. A grid of 25x25 cm is ideal for manual or semi-automated cultivation.
• Soil Requirements: Ksanstart thrives in well-drained, loamy soils with a neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Soil aeration is vital to prevent root rot and ensure rapid nutrient uptake.

Irrigation and Maintenance

Consistent moisture is the key to high-quality yields. Drip irrigation is strongly recommended to keep the foliage dry, thereby reducing the risk of fungal pathogens. During the vegetative stage, maintain soil moisture at 70–80% of field capacity. Nitrogen management should be front-loaded to support initial growth, while potassium applications in the later stages will enhance leaf texture and post-harvest shelf life.
