Lettuce Aruanas

Adaptability and Field Performance

The Dutch breeding expertise of Rijk Zwaan is clearly reflected in the 'Arunas' variety, which prioritizes stability under changing climatic conditions. In field trials, this lettuce demonstrates high tolerance to stress factors, a critical requirement for professional vegetable production. Unlike many varieties prone to premature bolting during sharp temperature fluctuations, 'Arunas' maintains its vegetative growth phase even under prolonged exposure to high heat and moisture deficits.

Pathogen Resistance

The hybrid's genetic profile is designed to minimize risks in both open-field and greenhouse environments. Rijk Zwaan breeders have integrated comprehensive protection against the most aggressive races of downy mildew (Bremia lactucae), allowing for a significant reduction in fungicide applications. The root system shows excellent resistance to soil-borne pathogens, ensuring consistent nutrient uptake even during peak growth periods.

Cultivation Insights

The official registration of the variety in Ukraine in 2026 opens up new opportunities for growers across various climatic zones. Due to its high plasticity, 'Arunas' delivers predictable results in both light sandy soils and heavier chernozems. The plant forms a dense, high-quality rosette that is resistant to mechanical damage during harvesting and transport, making it an optimal choice for retail distribution.
