The 'Snowflake' salad is an early-maturing leafy variety with a short ripening period — only 20–25 days. The plants form a compact vertical rosette 20–25 cm in diameter and 30–35 cm tall, composed of 12–18 oval-elongated leaves with a green-yellow hue, wavy and serrated edges. This decorative form gives the salad aesthetic appeal, making it popular for both home cultivation and commercial production. The leaves have a crisp texture and pleasant taste, rated 4.7–5 points, suitable for fresh salads and dish garnishes.
'Snowflake' exhibits high cold resistance and can tolerate temperatures from 0°C to 10°C, as well as drought, extending its growing season from March to November, both in open ground and greenhouses. Under optimal conditions, seed germination reaches 93%, and yield can reach up to 2 kg per square meter. The variety is characterized by uniform and synchronized harvest, resistance to stem rot, and strong immunity to many diseases, significantly simplifying plant care.
For successful cultivation, moderate and regular watering under furrows is recommended, avoiding wetting the leaves, as well as loosening the inter-row spaces. Suitable fertilizers include compost and mineral feedings. The total sugar content in the leaves is 1.8–2.0%, and vitamin C content is approximately 18.6–18.8 mg%, making the salad not only tasty but also a nutritious product for daily consumption.
