Lettuce Expedition

A Benchmark of Reliability in Lettuce Cultivation

The breeding work of the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan has long been synonymous with progress in vegetable production. The 'Expedition' hybrid is a logical evolution in their line of leaf lettuces, designed specifically for professional growers who cannot afford the risks associated with crop loss due to disease. In intensive farming, where soil fatigue and disease pressure become the primary enemies of profitability, this hybrid demonstrates exceptional resilience.

The Biological Shield for Your Crop

The main value of 'Expedition' lies in its comprehensive genetic protection. Rijk Zwaan breeders have equipped this hybrid with a robust immune system against key pathogens that traditionally cause the most damage to lettuce crops:

• Full resistance to Tomato Mosaic Virus (ToMV).
• A reliable barrier against Verticillium and Fusarium wilt.
• Defense against Cladosporium leaf spot and powdery mildew, which is critical for protected cropping and periods of high humidity.

These characteristics allow agronomists to significantly reduce fungicide application, resulting in cleaner produce—a mandatory requirement for today's retail market.

Visual Characteristics and Agronomics

'Expedition' features a distinct, vibrant green color that remains stable even during prolonged storage, which is highly valued during distribution. The leaf rosette is dense and uniform, making it well-suited for mechanical harvesting and reducing labor costs. This hybrid adapts excellently to various soil types, reaching its full potential when optimal irrigation and nutrient regimes are maintained. Due to its stable growth habit, the plant produces consistent marketable weight, minimizing the percentage of waste during sorting.
