Porphyra is a red-type Bataavia lettuce intended for industrial cultivation in large volumes both in open ground and protected environments. This medium-early variety is distinguished by its resistance to tip burn and bolting, making it especially suitable for greenhouse complexes and peasant farms. Thanks to its characteristics, Porphyra can be grown year-round in protected conditions, providing a stable yield and high product quality.
Additionally, the name Porphyra is also known for a group of red algae widely used in cooking and healthy eating. Porphyra algae, often called nori, are sold dried and contain high levels of vitamins groups B, PP, A, C, and K, as well as iodine, which contributes to improved gut function and overall health improvement. The low caloric content of the product makes it an excellent choice for dietary nutrition.
Before use, the algae are recommended to be soaked in cold water for 10 minutes, which allows them to increase in volume and reveal a rich taste. They can be used not only for preparing soups but also in salads, main dishes, and appetizers; especially well, they combine with seafood. Thus, Porphyra represents a universal product that combines the advantages of both a lettuce for cultivation and beneficial algae for nutrition.
