Octavius

Octavius salad (Octavius) is a mid-early leaf lettuce variety of the Romaine type, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan. This variety is characterized by rapid growth and formation of abundant leaf mass, allowing it to be grown both in open ground and under cover, as well as in hydroponics throughout the year. The vegetative period is approximately 50 days. The plant forms large, whole, upright leaves of light green color, with a leaf rosette weight of about 500 grams. The lettuce leaves are crisp, juicy, and have a mild, pleasant flavor without bitterness, making it ideal for fresh consumption and market sales.

The Octavius variety exhibits high resistance to a range of diseases, including mosaic virus, downy mildew (Bremia lactucae, races 1-16, 19, 21, 23), internal necrosis, and lettuce aphid. It also shows significant resistance to bolting, which extends the harvest period and ensures stable production. Due to its high adaptability, the lettuce tolerates temperature fluctuations and changes in growing conditions, making it suitable for various climatic conditions and soil types.

To achieve maximum yield, it is recommended to organize drip irrigation with consistent and regulated soil moisture, avoiding both drying out and waterlogging. Regular soil loosening, weed control, and thinning of seedlings as needed are essential care practices. Octavius lettuce has high commercial qualities, long storage life, and good transportability. It possesses beneficial and dietary properties, making it in demand both for processing and fresh consumption.
