Lettuce Clark

Technical Edge: The Clark Lettuce Hybrid

The Clark lettuce from the Dutch company Nunhems represents a gold standard in the butterhead segment. The technical design of this hybrid focuses on achieving high mass production while maintaining the delicate leaf texture that the market demands. Its structural integrity ensures that even large heads retain their consistency from harvest to shelf.

Advanced Genetic Resistance

At the core of the Clark hybrid's performance is a comprehensive genetic shield designed to mitigate risks in modern commercial farming:

• Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae): Engineered with robust resistance genes to suppress the pathogen, significantly reducing the need for chemical fungicide applications.
• Fusarium Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae): Ensures crop uniformity and prevents losses, providing a stable stand across the field throughout the growing season.
• Lettuce Mosaic Virus (LMV): High tolerance levels prevent tissue deformation, protecting both the aesthetic and commercial value of the harvest.

Growth Dynamics and Market Performance

The light-green foliage is a hallmark of Clark's optimized photosynthetic capacity. As a butterhead type, it excels at developing large, uniform heads that satisfy the requirements of large-scale mechanical harvesting. By combining substantial head mass with a consistent, buttery texture, Nunhems has developed a hybrid that maximizes profit margins per hectare while maintaining the high-quality standards expected of premium produce.
