Cartagenas

Cartagenas is a medium-maturing head lettuce variety of the Iceberg type, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan. This variety features a light green color and a head weight of approximately 700 grams. Thanks to its high yield—up to 23 tons per hectare—it is popular for cultivation in open ground during spring-summer and summer-autumn periods, as well as in protected cultivation year-round.

Cartagenas is renowned for its resistance to various adverse conditions: it tolerates drought, spring frosts down to -5 degrees Celsius, and temperature fluctuations, especially under cover. The variety is resistant to common diseases such as downy mildew, necrosis, and bolting, as well as resilient against root rot. These qualities make it a reliable choice for farmers and gardeners, ensuring consistent and high-quality yields.

In addition, Cartagenas lettuce has excellent taste qualities and is ideal for fresh markets. It withstands prolonged transportation without loss of appearance, making it highly sought after in commercial cultivation. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to follow basic agronomic practices: timely watering, weed control, and fertilization. Seeds germinate at a temperature of +16–+17 degrees Celsius, enabling effective seedling production.
