Lettuce Brogan

Professional choice: Why farmers rely on Brogan Iceberg

In large-scale lettuce production, the predictability of the crop is the key to profitability. Brogan, a hybrid variety from Enza Limited, is designed to meet the rigorous standards of modern commercial farming. It combines high yield potential with a robust defense system against pathogens that typically plague Iceberg lettuce crops.

Resilience against common field pathogens

The primary value of Brogan in an agronomist's toolkit is its genetic resistance. When operating under intensive farming practices, the ability to avoid crop loss from soil-borne diseases is paramount. Brogan provides protection against:

• Fusarium and Verticillium wilt: These soil-borne pathogens can devastate a lettuce crop during the head-filling stage; Brogan’s resistance provides peace of mind and secures investment.
• Cladosporium and Mosaic virus: Resistance to these issues ensures that the outer leaves remain clean and free from necrotic spots or distortion, which is critical for meeting retail quality specifications.

By integrating this variety, growers can significantly reduce the frequency of fungicide applications, aligning with modern integrated pest management strategies.

Field performance and harvest efficiency

Brogan produces uniform, light-green heads with excellent interior structure. The density of the heads is ideal for both handling and shelf-life, ensuring that the product maintains its fresh, crunchy characteristics from the field to the supermarket shelf. The high uniformity of the crop allows for a more efficient harvest schedule; plants reach maturity synchronously, which significantly cuts labor costs and simplifies logistics during the harvest window.

Whether implemented in spring or summer production cycles, Brogan demonstrates remarkable temperature tolerance. Its consistent performance makes it a reliable asset for commercial growers who need a standard-setting Iceberg lettuce that maintains its quality under varying field conditions. By focusing on durability and visual appeal, Enza Limited has provided a solution that satisfies both the logistical requirements of wholesalers and the quality expectations of consumers.
