Lettuce BINEX

Stable Yields with Binex: Rijk Zwaan’s Premium Leaf Lettuce

In the professional leafy greens sector, Dutch breeding by Rijk Zwaan consistently sets the quality bar, and Binex is a prime example. This early-maturing variety addresses the most critical challenge in greenhouse and open-field cultivation: susceptibility to necrosis. In intensive farming environments, where slight climate fluctuations often lead to significant product waste, Binex demonstrates exceptional resilience against both internal and external necrosis.

Key Advantages and Disease Resistance

The standout feature of Binex is its combination of an intense, attractive red color and high stress tolerance. Unlike many red leaf lettuces prone to leaf spots, this hybrid is well-protected against major pathogens. Its primary defense profile includes:

• Full resistance to major races of Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae).
• Resistance to Fusarium wilt, which is essential for growers operating on the same plot for multiple seasons.
• Immunity to Lettuce Mosaic Virus, ensuring excellent crop uniformity.

Who is this hybrid for?

Binex is optimized for farmers supplying premium retail chains. The vibrant red color makes the product stand out on supermarket shelves, while its resistance to necrosis minimizes post-harvest waste. It is a reliable choice for producers who value predictability: early maturity allows for a quick turnover of fields, reducing risks associated with sudden outbreaks or leaf damage caused by humidity swings.

Despite its advanced genetic traits, the variety requires adherence to basic agronomic practices. Its sensitivity to severe water management errors means that precise irrigation is critical, especially in greenhouse conditions. Overall, Binex is a professional tool for producing clean, high-quality lettuce without the unnecessary overhead of heavy fungicide usage.
