AS 1 cotton variety (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is characterized by medium plant height and a conical shape, which ensures good air circulation and facilitates mechanized harvesting. The leaf is palmate of medium size with moderate leaf density and a moderately hairy lower vein. Inside the leaf are gossypol glands and nectaries, while the flower petals are cream-colored.
The fruit part is a medium-sized boll with an oval longitudinal section, strongly open, with medium interrupted ridges. The pedicel has medium length, and the apex protrudes moderately. The raw mass of one boll ranges from 4.5 to 6.1 g, while the total cotton raw yield is 16.9–47.4 c/ha at a planting density of 80,000–100,000 plants per hectare. The vegetative period lasts 105–125 days.
The AS 1 variety fiber is long, Type V, with a staple length of about 32–33 mm and a linear density of approximately 170 mteks. Fiber yield is 37–38%, and the 1000-seed weight is 110–120 g. The variety is resistant to spider mites, aphids, and some fungal diseases, making it suitable for cultivation in the arid zone of the North Caucasus and Astrakhan region. Due to high fiber strength and compliance with standards, it is suitable for producing high-quality cotton yarn.
