The "SEREN" variety is a hybrid of mizuna (Beta vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris var. flavescens D C. crispa), characterized by rapid growth and high green yield. The time from sowing to commercial readiness is 42–45 days, and the growing period is 85–90 days. The leaf rosette is upright, reaching up to 27 cm in height (some sources mention 45–50 cm) and about 14 cm in diameter. The leaves are dark green, slightly blistered, and have softly curled edges; the petioles are of medium length – 25–30 cm, purple-magenta in color, and curved in cross-section.
Green yield reaches 1.9–2.0 kg/m², and the mass of the productive part of a single plant is about 45 g. Thanks to the dense leaves and bright petiole color, the crop easily attracts attention in garden beds and mixed borders. Young leaves and petioles can be harvested as early as 40–45 days after sowing, making the variety particularly attractive for those who want to quickly obtain fresh ingredients.
Mizuna has diverse culinary applications: young leaves and petioles are ideal for salads, soups, and stews; stems can be sautéed or boiled like asparagus. Due to the high content of folic acid, proteins, and amino acids, this crop is a valuable source of nutrients. For cultivation, a light, fertile soil is recommended; the plant does not require special conditions – it is easy to cultivate both in open ground and on a windowsill with sufficient lighting and regular watering.
