Hippeastrum – a perennial bulbous plant from the amaryllis family, native to the tropics of South America. Under Ukrainian conditions, it is most often grown as a houseplant, although in summer it thrives outdoors.
The flower has gained particular popularity for its large, spectacular funnel-shaped blooms up to 20 cm in diameter. When choosing planting material, pay attention to the bulb: it should be dense, dry, without signs of rot or mechanical damage.
Care of the Hippeastrum involves choosing the right location with sufficient light, regular watering, and feeding with fertilizers during the growth and flowering periods. After flowering, care must be provided for the bulb and the plant prepared for its resting period, after which it is “woken up” for repeated blooming. Reproduction is done by dividing bulbs, but typical problems may arise that require careful observation and timely intervention.
