Hippeastrum Maria

Technical Specifications and Morphological Stability

The 'Maria' hippeastrum, developed by the Federal Research Center of Subtropical Science of the RAS, is engineered for structural integrity. The plant features a stem height of 60–70 cm, which has been optimized for mechanical stiffness to prevent lodging under the weight of large, heavy blooms. This structural robustness is a result of selective breeding focused on tissue density, ensuring the plant remains upright without external support.

Bloom Mechanics

The flower reaches a diameter of 18–22 cm. The vascular system of the stalk is highly efficient, facilitating the rapid transport of water and nutrients required to maintain the turgor pressure of such large petals. This energy management ensures prolonged bloom duration when grown in indoor environments, where environmental factors can be strictly controlled.

Operational Cultivation Guidelines

• Indoor Cycle: Requires a stable potting substrate with excellent drainage to prevent bulb rot. The geometry of the plant is well-suited for interior decorative use due to its balanced proportions.
• Outdoor Cycle: Summer transfer to open soil is recommended. This phase utilizes solar radiation to maximize photosynthesis and accumulate the carbohydrate reserves necessary for the following season's growth cycle.

The technical merit of 'Maria' lies in its predictable phenology and high tolerance to environmental transitions, making it a reliable performer for both interior plant enthusiasts and outdoor garden beds.
