Description MIŠUTKA
Hippeastrum, also known as amaryllis or Christmas flower, is a perennial bulbous herbaceous species that can be grown both in open ground and as a houseplant. The plant features a solitary leafless hollow inflorescence up to 1 m tall and 15–20 cm in diameter; flowers can reach up to 18 cm in diameter and come in white, yellow, cream, red, pink, or combined with stripes. Leaves grow from a basal rosette, are opposite, sessile, tender green, up to 5 cm wide and 70 cm long.

For successful cultivation, Hippeastrum requires bright diffused light; ideally, choose windows with a southwest, south, or southeast orientation. Indoor temperatures should be maintained between +17–+25 °C. Watering is moderate at the beginning of the growing season and more abundant after the scape has formed. Repotting is done once every 3–4 years just before the start of a new growth cycle or immediately after flowering is complete.

In the garden, the plant typically blooms in June–July, whereas under home conditions it blooms in the first half of the year, depending on the planting time. Thanks to its bright and large flora, Hippeastrum becomes a popular decorative element both in pots and in open areas, bringing a picturesque accent to the interior or garden.
