Comet grape variety is a table hybrid with medium to medium-late ripening, reaching maturity in 135-140 days at an accumulated active temperature sum of 2650-2800°C. In the Novocherkassk region, this variety ripens in mid-September. The clusters are large, cylindrical-conical in shape, with an average weight of 700 to 1000 grams, moderately dense or loose. The berries are very large, black with a bloom, elongated-oval or oval in shape, weighing 8-9 grams and measuring 26-30 by 19-20 mm. The flesh is juicy-fleshy, the skin is thick, tearing, and easily edible, providing a pleasant and simple taste. Sugar content varies from 16.6 to 19.9%, acidity from 5.5 to 8.0 g/l. The tasting score of fresh grapes reaches 8 points, indicating high fruit quality.
The variety exhibits high cold resistance up to -23°C and resistance to major grape diseases such as mildew, oidium, and gray rot, with resistance ratings of 2-2.5 points. The flowers are bisexual, which contributes to good fruiting. 50-60% of fruiting shoots form, with 0.9 to 1.3 clusters per developed shoot. Recommended plant density is 30-40 buds per plant, and pruning of canes to 6-8 buds for optimal growth and yield. It is also important to regulate cluster numbers to maintain berry quality.
Comet has good transportability and can retain its market quality during storage until February. Due to its large, attractive berries, as well as resistance to pests and diseases, this variety is popular among gardeners and table grape producers. It is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions and provides a stable yield with excellent flavor characteristics.
