Description

Colombar is a white grape variety of French origin, belonging to the late ripening period. The vines of this variety are medium-sized, with medium-sized leaves, almost rounded, three- or five-lobed, with a slight funnel-shaped bend and raised edges. The leaves have medium-hairy underside. The clusters of Colombar are medium-sized, of cylindrical-conical shape, sometimes with wings, of medium density. The berries are of medium size, rounded, white in color with a greenish tint, with a thick skin and juicy flesh. The variety is characterized by good yield, reaching 100-160 centners per hectare, or 9-13 tons per hectare. Shoot ripening in Colombar passes successfully, but early flowering can create difficulties in a cool and temperate climate. The grapes are relatively resistant to mildew and berry rotting, but are sensitive to autumn frosts, which requires careful care and selection of suitable growing conditions. Colombar is widely used for the production of cognac wine materials and is an important component of white wine blends of the Bordeaux and Gascony regions. Thanks to its characteristics, it is valued for its ability to create quality wines with good structure and aroma. This grape variety is suitable for those who strive to obtain a stable and abundant harvest of white grapes with excellent technological properties.
