Black Opiana is a late-ripening technical grape variety intended for the production of red dessert and liqueur wines. This variety was developed through clonal selection from the Muscat Black variety at the NIVV «Magarach» and is characterized by increased yield, high must output, significant sugar accumulation levels, and a rich reserve of color compounds. The variety's yield reaches 148-156 centners per hectare, while sugar content in berries at harvest maturity is about 29-30 g per 100 cm³, ensuring high quality of the wine material. The grape possesses a muscat aftertaste, while the juice is colorless, imparting a special elegance and harmony of taste to the wine.
Kusts of the variety are of medium height, with medium-sized leaves, weakly or moderately dissected, and with slight bristly pubescence. Bunches have a cylinder-cone shape, dense, with an average weight of about 260 grams. Berries are wide-elliptic, dark blue-black, juicy, and contain 2-3 seeds of medium size. The variety is characterized by a medium degree of resistance to diseases and pests, which requires moderate attention during cultivation.
Black Opiana is valued for its stability and high quality productivity, making it in demand for industrial cultivation and production of high-quality dessert wines. Thanks to its characteristics, the variety is successfully used in winemaking, providing wines with a saturated color, pleasant aroma, and balanced taste.
