Apple AUGUSTINA

Genetic Profile and Tree Architecture

The summer apple cultivar 'Avgustina' is a product of professional breeding by the Federal Research Center for Horticulture (originators I.V. Kazakov and S.N. Evdokimenko at the Rossosh Zonal Experimental Station). The design goal was to create a productive variety with optimized physical dimensions, facilitating easier canopy management in high-density orchards.

Technical Specifications: Canopy and Fruit

The tree exhibits medium vigor, a key operational benefit that streamlines pruning, thinning, and mechanical harvesting processes. The broadly pyramidal crown shape ensures superior light penetration, reducing interior shading and promoting uniform ripening.

• Fruit Weight: 100–150 g, aligning with standard market requirements for summer dessert varieties.
• Fruit Geometry: Elongated, round-conical shape with slight ribbing.
• Appearance: Attractive diffused red blush across the surface.
• Pulp Characteristics: Crisp white flesh, consistent texture.

Disease Resistance and Environmental Adaptability

A critical technical advantage of 'Avgustina' is its robust genetic resistance to apple scab (Venturia inaequalis). This specific resistance profile allows producers to significantly reduce the frequency of fungicide applications, decreasing operational costs and environmental impact. Regarding hardiness, the variety demonstrates average cold resistance; therefore, site selection in colder regions should focus on sheltered areas and maintaining soil moisture in the root zone. 'Avgustina' offers predictable performance, making it a viable selection for both commercial and boutique orchard systems.
