Description Otaman
The Otaman pea variety is a classic semi-dwarf, leafless type, distinguished by high resistance to lodging and shattering, making it suitable for direct combine harvesting. Plants have an average stem height of 60 to 80 cm, with 14-16 internodes until the first inflorescence. Flowers are white, arranged in pairs on pedicels. Pods are shelling-type, medium-large, with blunt tips, well-filled, containing 5 to 7 seeds. Seeds are round, smooth, brown or yellow, with a 1000-seed weight of 230-250 g. Otaman is recommended for cultivation in the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe regions. The variety exhibits high resistance to a range of diseases, including fusarium, septoria, ascochytosis, anthracnose, rust, powdery mildew, peronosporosis, and rhizoctonia root rot. The recommended planting density is 29-31 plants per square meter, or approximately 1.2 million viable seeds per hectare. Protein content reaches 20-22%, making it valuable for grain-oriented use. Otaman is a high-yielding variety with a potential yield of up to 6 tons per hectare, with an average yield of 26-27 c/ha and a maximum of 46 c/ha. Developed by the V. Ya. Yur'ev Institute of Plant Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, it has been included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2010. Due to its characteristics and resistance, Otaman is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to obtain a stable and high-quality pea harvest.
