Wheatgrass Argonavt

Investing in Long-Term Pasture Productivity

The 'Argonavt' wheatgrass variety, developed by the breeders at SKFNATS, is a specialized solution for establishing highly productive forage lands. In an environment where high-quality green fodder is often in short supply, this variety serves as a reliable tool for farmers focused on intensive pasture-based livestock production.

Practical Utility in Farm Operations

The primary task addressed by 'Argonavt' is the creation of a resilient sward capable of withstanding systematic grazing over many seasons. Unlike annual crops, this variety demonstrates exceptional resistance to mechanical sod damage from livestock hooves and exhibits rapid recovery after grazing.

• Forage Base: Provides a stable yield of biomass during periods when other grasses show reduced vegetative activity.
• Land Management: Ideal for seeding plots with challenging conditions where moisture retention and erosion prevention are critical.
• Agrotechnics: Thanks to its robust root system, the variety effectively competes with weeds, reducing the need for herbicide applications on pastures.

The breeding work led by Vasiliy Kravtsov, Nikolay Nadmidov, and Viktor Kravtsov has achieved a harmonious balance between nutritional value and stress tolerance. 'Argonavt' responds excellently to fertilization, yet its key value lies in its 'autonomy': it efficiently utilizes the natural fertility potential of the soil in regions with difficult climatic conditions.

For livestock enterprises, selecting this variety from SKFNATS represents an investment in reducing the cost per unit of weight gain or milk yield by transitioning to high-quality grazing forage available throughout a long growing season.
