Maize Venzel

Stability of Ukrainian Breeding

The «Venzel» hybrid is a classic representative of grain maize from the breeders of the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS. In the Ukrainian agricultural market, this simple hybrid has established itself as a reliable tool for farms focused on commercial grain production. Developed by domestic scientists, it is adapted to regional climatic risks, making the crop predictable in production.

Agronomic Profile and Resistance

«Venzel» belongs to the mid-late maturity group, with an FAO rating ranging from 90 to 1240. The growing season lasts from 120 to 140 days, requiring agronomists to strictly adhere to sowing dates for full maturation. The dent-type grain possesses high technological quality for drying and threshing.

A key advantage of the hybrid is its phytosanitary resistance, engineered at the genetic level:

• High resistance threshold to common smut, one of the most persistent problems in corn fields.
• A reliable barrier against head smut and stalk rot, significantly reducing yield losses during storage and transportation.

The use of this hybrid is justified in regions with moderate risks where a combination of yield potential and high resistance to stalk and cob diseases is critical. «Venzel» remains a relevant solution for agricultural producers seeking a balance between the quality of Ukrainian breeding and predictable grain profitability.
