Technical Profile of the "Twist" Hybrid

Developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of the Steppe Zone of the NAAS of Ukraine, "Twist" is a simple dent-grain corn hybrid designed for stable grain production. The hybrid's architecture is built around a specific FAO rating (90-240), allowing for precise adaptation across various climatic zones within Ukraine.

Engineering Solutions for Crop Resilience

The breeding focus for "Twist" prioritizes field resistance to key pathogens and pests, ensuring minimal loss during the grain-filling stage:

• Phytopathological Defense: High tolerance to Fusarium significantly reduces the risk of mycotoxin accumulation, preserving grain quality. Resistance to common smut (Ustilago maydis) minimizes mechanical damage to the ears.
• Pest Tolerance: Genetic resistance to the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) maintains stalk integrity, drastically reducing lodging and ensuring efficient combine harvesting.

Agronomic Density Parameters

The dent-grain structure of "Twist" ensures high technological performance during post-harvest processing, facilitating efficient threshing and rapid drying. The hybrid exhibits high plasticity regarding planting density, which should be adjusted based on moisture availability:

• Under moisture-limited conditions, the recommended planting density is 55,000–60,000 plants per hectare.
• In areas with sufficient moisture or under irrigation, the yield potential is maximized at a density of 75,000–80,000 plants per hectare.
