Iziaslav 220 MV

Iziaslav 220 MV — a mid-early modified hybrid of sweet corn with FAO 220, developed by the 'Maïs' selection and registered in 2010. It is ideally suited for cultivation in the forest-steppe and Polissia regions, and is successfully used in the steppe zone of Ukraine. The growing period of the hybrid ranges from 98 to 114 days depending on climatic conditions. Plants reach a height of about 220 cm, and the cylindrical ear forms at a height of 90 cm from the base of the stem, containing 14–16 rows of dent yellow kernels with a 1000-kernel weight of 240–280 g. Grain yield is 82–85%, contributing to high productivity at harvest.

The hybrid Iziaslav 220 MV is characterized by high initial growth energy, especially when sown early, and resistance to adverse environmental factors. It tolerates short-term cold spells, drought, and high temperatures, demonstrating tolerance rated at 8 out of 9 points. Plants have strong ear attachment, ensuring resistance to lodging and wilting even 30 days after physiological maturity. The hybrid also exhibits high disease resistance: maximum resistance to gray mold and high protection against powdery mildew and corn borer.

Iziaslav 220 MV is versatile in use — it is grown both for grain and silage. Potential grain yield reaches 129 c/ha in Polissia and up to 100 c/ha in the forest-steppe, while silage yield can reach up to 520 c/ha in Polissia. The hybrid is characterized by high speed of grain drying after maturity, reducing losses during harvest. Recommended planting density varies by region: 70–80 thousand plants per hectare for Polissia, 60–70 thousand for the forest-steppe, 45–50 thousand for the northern steppe, and 35–40 thousand for the southern steppe. Seeds are sown at a soil temperature of +9…+11°C to a depth of 5–7 cm. Due to its adaptability and resilience, the hybrid Iziaslav 220 MV is a reliable choice for obtaining stable and high yields under various agro-climatic conditions in Ukraine.
