Hybrid corn Kharkivskiy 294 MV is a dent-type yellow variety developed by breeders of the Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya. Yuryev of UAAN. This double midline hybrid was obtained by crossing the maternal form of simple hybrid Kharkivskiy 23 MC with the parental simple hybrid Kharkivskiy 40 MV. Plants reach a height of 220-240 cm, have 11-12 above-ground nodes on the main stem and 16-17 leaves. The cylindrical ear forms at a height of about 80 cm, its length is 22 cm with a weight of 280 g, with 16 rows of kernels. The ear tip is well covered with husk and fully covered by husk, the ear stalk is red. The kernel is characterized by dent shape and yellow color, the 1000-kernel weight reaches 290 g, the protein content in the grain is 9.0%. The hybrid belongs to medium-early varieties with FAO 290, the vegetation period from emergence to full maturity varies depending on the cultivation zone: 110 days in Steppe, 124 days in Forest-steppe and 131 days in Polissya. The grain moisture at maturity varies from 23.9% to 30.6% depending on the climatic conditions of the region. The corn demonstrates high drought resistance and high cold resistance, evaluated at 4.7 points. The hybrid is tolerant to stalk rot, aerial and blister rusts, and resistant to damage by corn borer at a level not lower than standard. Kharkivskiy 294 MV is characterized by high yield. In the Forest-steppe zone, the average grain yield over competition trials amounted to 81.7 centners per hectare, exceeding national standards by 2.7 centners per hectare. The maximum yield was recorded in 1999 at the Zolotonosha trial site in Cherkasy region and amounted to 113.8 centners per hectare. Seed production of the hybrid is carried out on a sterile basis according to the full fertility restoration scheme. It is recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe soil-climatic zone of Ukraine, which provides optimal conditions for realizing its potential.
