Sorghum variety OTELLO is a mid-early grain hybrid designed for producing oil-rich grain. The plants are characterized by medium height and a symmetrical, medium-length, dense panicle with reddish-brown glumes. The mass of 1000 grains is about 30 g, which exceeds the average standard for mass and yield by 3.8 g and 38.8%, respectively. The average yield in the region reaches 37.2 centners/ha, with maximum figures up to 70.1 centners/ha.
The hybrid is distinguished by high resistance to major diseases such as rust and downy mildew, as well as stem lodging, ensuring yield stability. OTELLO belongs to the moderately intensive type of adaptability and is recommended for cultivation in steppe zones of the Central and Northern regions. An important feature is the high oil content in the grain — 50-52%, which makes it attractive for the oilseed segment.
For optimal cultivation, it is recommended to follow crop rotation, choose appropriate sowing dates, and ensure spatial isolation from linseed sunflower at a distance of no less than 200-400 meters. The recommended sowing density varies depending on soil moisture levels: at insufficient moisture — 40-45 thousand plants per hectare, at moderate — 45-55 thousand, at sufficient — 55-60 thousand plants per hectare. The hybrid is well-suited for the Classic herbicide technology and is resistant to various races of the volunteer sunflower parasite (A-G).
