Corn hybrid 'Ekodar 280' is a mid-season hybrid with maturity group FAO 320, developed by the private joint-stock company 'ECOPROD' and registered in the Ukrainian plant variety registry since 2021. Recommended growing zones include Steppe, Forest Steppe, and Polissia. This hybrid is intended for grain and silage production, has a dent kernel type, and is characterized by high and stable yields. Under favorable conditions, the plant can form two economically viable ears, with grain yield averaging 83% of ear mass.
The feature of 'Ekodar 280' is enhanced photosynthetic efficiency, due to the erect leaf arrangement, which promotes good initial growth rate and effective water release at maturity. The hybrid is cold-tolerant and drought-resistant, making it adaptable to various climatic conditions. Additionally, the variety is tolerant to root and stalk rot, as well as to smut, which enhances its disease resistance and contributes to stable yields.
For successful cultivation, planting should be conducted at optimal early dates when soil temperature is +9...+12 °C, at a seed burial depth. The hybrid allows for replanting on the same field, enabling efficient use of land resources. Recommended planting density varies by region: for Polissia — 60-70 thousand plants per hectare, for Forest Steppe and Northern Steppe — 50-60 thousand/ha, for Southern Steppe — 40-50 thousand/ha.
