Maize EK 2974

Genetic Architecture of the EK 2974 Hybrid

The early maturity of the Monsanto EK 2974 corn hybrid is not merely a marketing metric, but the result of selective breeding focused on the efficient utilization of short daylight hours and cumulative heat units. In intensive farming systems, this hybrid demonstrates rapid grain moisture dry-down, which is critical for reducing energy costs during post-harvest grain processing.

Technological Advantages of the Grain

The dent (teeth) grain type, combined with its distinct yellow-orange color, indicates high starch content and an optimal balance between vitreous and floury endosperm. For the agronomist, this translates into:

• Stable grain test weight during harvesting.
• Minimal field losses when using combine headers, thanks to the cob shank’s resistance to mechanical stress.
• High yield of commercial grain suitable for elevator delivery or long-term storage.

The engineering of this hybrid is strictly focused on grain production. Monsanto's genetics in this instance provide vigorous early-season growth, allowing the crop to canopy over quickly and utilize soil moisture more effectively. Integrating EK 2974 into a crop rotation is particularly justified in regions where avoiding autumn frosts and clearing fields for winter crops in a tight schedule is a priority.
