Coriander Shiko

Technical Profile of Shiko Coriander

The selection of the 'Shiko' variety—a joint development by Gavrish and VNIISSOK—is engineered to optimize vegetative biomass at the expense of generative development during early stages. Unlike standard grain-oriented varieties, the focus here is strictly on leaf morphology and the rate of green mass accumulation.

Plant Architecture

This variety belongs to the specialized leaf type. A key technical feature is the delayed transition to the bolting phase. For commercial vegetable production, this is a critical parameter: extending the harvest window allows producers greater flexibility in scheduling, significantly reducing the risk of quality loss due to tissue lignification.

Production Parameters

• Growth Velocity: Rapid rosette formation, which shortens the interval between sowing and harvest maturity.
• Biochemical Profile: A specific volatile oil composition provides a pronounced yet balanced aroma, consistent with professional leaf-type standards.
• Adaptability: The variety displays high resilience to sudden temperature fluctuations in both protected and open-field environments, minimizing the risk of premature flowering.

The practical value of 'Shiko' lies in crop predictability. Breeders prioritized crop uniformity, which is essential for mechanized harvesting operations. The dense, upright rosette structure promotes air circulation within the canopy, effectively lowering the risk of fungal pathogen development in high-density plantings.
