Chicory ROSSO

VNIISSOK Breeding: Red Chicory Classic

The 'Rosso' variety represents a milestone in the breeding work of VNIISSOK, focusing on adapting salad chicory to specific regional climate conditions. In a market often dominated by imported varieties, this chicory offers a reliable, locally bred alternative for producers looking to strengthen their presence in the premium salad segment.

Agronomic Profile and Market Use

This salad-type chicory is distinguished by its visual appeal, making it a standout in both professional greenhouses and boutique farms. The primary use of 'Rosso' is for the fresh market, where its aesthetic properties and flavor profile are paramount. The leaves possess a rich, deep red color that maintains its intensity under proper growing conditions. Unlike many wild-type chicory varieties, this selection lacks the harsh bitterness often associated with the species, offering a pleasant, slightly sweet taste that is highly prized by culinary professionals.
