Description Dubovochka
This variety was developed at the Dubovsky Support Station of the Nizhny-Volzhsk Region of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Growing by breeders R.V. Korneev and L.K. Zhukova through sowing seeds of the Griot Ostgheim variety from open pollination in 1961. It was introduced into the State Register in 2006 for the Nizhny-Volzhsk region.
Trees are small; at 8 years of age, they reach 2.3 m in height with a crown diameter of 2 m. The crown is spherical, raised, of medium density. The bark on the trunk and main branches is flaking and gray. Shoots are medium-sized, arching, brown, bare. Stipules are small, yellow, few in number. Leaves are medium-sized, elliptical, dark green, matte, long-pointed. The leaf blade is concave, curved downward, without hairs. The leaf margin is finely toothed and serrated. The petiole is medium-sized and thick. Stipules are small, round, one or two per leaf. Flowers are medium-sized, white, bell-shaped, in fruit buds in groups of three, sometimes two to four. The calyx is pink. Fruit set is mixed — on flower clusters and one-year shoots.
Fruits are medium-sized (average weight 3.4 g), round, dark red. The fruit apex is rounded, the base has an indentation. The pedicel is medium in length and thickness, weakly attached to the mature fruit, detaching dryly. The skin is medium, firm. The flesh is red or dark red, tender-fibrous, juicy, slightly acidic-sweet, very good in taste. Taste evaluation score: 4.5 points. Juice is red. The stone detaches easily from the flesh, small, yellowish, round. The variety is of universal use. Fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, compote, and jam making. Compote is rated 4.5 points. Fruits contain 14.4% dry matter, 8.39% sugars, 1.28% acids, and 17.51 mg/100g ascorbic acid.
Trees begin fruiting in the 3rd-4th year after planting in the orchard. Fruits ripen early, in mid-June. The variety is partially self-fertile. The best pollinator is Rastunya. It has high yield. The average yield over six years for 8-13-year-old trees with a root spacing of 5 x 2 meters amounted to 87.6 centners/hectare. Winter hardiness is high. No damage to above-ground parts was observed, except for fruit buds. No disease damage was observed.
Advantages of the variety: high yield and winter hardiness, dry detachment from the pedicel, good fruit quality, suitable for mechanical harvesting.
