Korund

Carrot variety Korund is a medium-late hybrid variety with a vegetation period of 115 to 132 days. The roots are cylindrical in shape, tapering at the tip, 13 to 21 cm long and weighing about 180 grams. The skin and flesh of the carrot are bright orange, with a pale core in cross-section. The variety is characterized by simultaneous root maturation, which allows for efficient mechanical harvesting.

Korund has high flavor qualities and is rich in sugars (about 9.5%), carotene (11.2%) and dry matter (13.1%). Due to its high vitamin C content, the carrot is recommended for raw consumption, but it is also suitable for long-term storage and processing, retaining its firmness and flavor. This hybrid variety is mainly grown in open ground in regions such as Ukraine, Moldova and Russia.

For successful cultivation of Korund carrot, crop rotation with predecessors such as cabbage, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and early potatoes is recommended. Seeds are sown from March to May or from October to November at a depth of 1-2 cm with row spacing of 20x4 cm. The optimal planting density is 1,200 to 1,500 plants per square meter. The harvest period falls between June and October, allowing for the collection of high-quality roots for various purposes.
