Japanese Russian (Brassica rapa ssp. nipposinica) is an early variety of leaf cabbage with a large spreading rosette, consisting of 44-60 green leaves with a diameter of 64-75 cm and a height of 30-40 cm. The leaves are pinnate, with a toothed edge, smooth, aromatic and tasty, which makes this variety particularly attractive for use in salads and table service. Russian differs in high yield - up to 5.0-6.5 kg per square meter, and the period from germination to the first harvest is 50-60 days. The plant is resistant to bolting, heat and cold, which allows growing it in various climatic conditions.
This variety of cabbage is unpretentious and can be grown throughout the season, at the same time, leaves can be cut one or two, after which they quickly grow, providing a long period of harvest. Russian prefers moist soil, but does not tolerate overmoistening. In addition to leaves, the root vegetable is edible and is 8-12 cm long and 5-7 cm in diameter, which by taste resembles turnip. Cabbage leaves can be consumed fresh, boiled, fried or dried, which expands the possibilities of its application in cooking.
Cabbage Russian is a dietary product rich in vitamins and minerals, which makes it useful for health. Thanks to its decorativeness and high nutritional value, this variety is excellent for both home growing and commercial production. Heat and drought resistance, as well as resistance to adverse environmental conditions ensure a stable and quality harvest throughout the summer-autumn period.
