Bird Cherry Taras Bulba

Elite breeding for northern climates: The Taras Bulba bird cherry

The 'Taras Bulba' bird cherry, developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, represents a perfect marriage between extreme climatic resilience and controlled growth. Unlike wild counterparts, this hybrid is intentionally bred to maintain a manageable height of 2–4 meters. This makes it an exceptionally strong candidate for landscaping tasks where space is at a premium and oversized trees would be problematic.

Climatic resilience and site selection

The standout characteristic of this variety is its impressive winter hardiness, surviving temperatures as low as -35°C. While robust against the elements, 'Taras Bulba' is selective regarding its environment. It thrives best in fertile, nutrient-rich soils. In poor or sandy conditions, the tree's growth rate and flowering density may suffer; therefore, providing a rich growing medium is essential to unlock the variety's true potential.

• Aesthetic impact: Boasts a spectacular, profuse bloom that serves as a stunning visual highlight in any landscape.
• Functional design: Its naturally compact canopy shape makes it perfect for formal hedge rows and privacy screens.
• Ease of maintenance: The medium height significantly simplifies fruit harvesting and pruning, eliminating the need for professional tree-climbing gear.

For those looking for a reliable, low-maintenance ornamental tree that handles harsh winters while maintaining a professional look, 'Taras Bulba' offers a blend of durability and elegance rarely found in standard cultivars.
