Description PRUNUS PADUS
Common Chokecherry (Prunus padus) is a medium-sized tree with a dense, rounded crown and a compact, symmetrical branch structure. Unlike some other varieties, it does not produce an abundance of fruit, making it particularly suitable for planting in high-traffic areas: the dropping berries do not soil clothing or garden furniture. The tree grows quickly, reaching maturity within a few years, and features dark green, slightly wrinkled leaves with a characteristic scent.

The 'Schloss Tiefurt' variety is distinguished by its round crown shape and tolerance to pruning and shaping. It grows excellently in both full sun and partial shade, preferring moisture-retentive, moderately fertile soils with good drainage. Chokecherry easily withstands urban conditions, including frost hardiness, making it a valuable element in landscape design.

Chokecherry is widely used for forming avenues, solitary and group plantings, as well as in urban greening. Thanks to its compactness and neat appearance, it is suitable for both small gardens and large park areas. The fruits – black drupes – are edible, but excessive fruiting is not characteristic of this variety, which reduces the need for berry harvesting.
