The Prunus padus (bird cherry) variety known as «Stroynaya» is the result of extensive work by plant breeders at the Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the SB RAS and the N.I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR). This variety was developed to meet the demand of landscape designers for compact, vertical woody forms that can withstand harsh climates while maintaining a high aesthetic standard.

The defining characteristic of «Stroynaya» is its distinct columnar crown. Unlike wild species, which often grow in a sprawling or irregular manner, this variety maintains a strict vertical silhouette, reaching heights of 2–4 meters.
