Bird Cherry CHEROKI

A Vertical Accent for Modern Landscapes

When selecting ornamental crops for constrained environments, such as narrow avenues or compact gardens, the 'Cherokee' bird cherry represents a highly functional choice. The primary feature of this hybrid, developed by the Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR), is its strict columnar crown shape. Unlike species-type plants that require frequent and labor-intensive pruning to control volume, 'Cherokee' maintains its narrow habit with minimal human intervention.

Operation and Maintenance

From an operations standpoint, 'Cherokee' is a low-maintenance crop. Due to its genetically defined crown architecture, the time and labor cost for structural pruning are significantly reduced. This translates to lower annual maintenance budgets for landscaping projects. The tree is not prone to crown spreading under heavy snow loads, which is a critical performance factor for regions with severe winter conditions.

• Climate Resilience: As a product of specialized breeding, the variety is well-adapted to local climatic zones, exhibiting high frost resistance.
• Ornamental Value: The rich leaf coloration and characteristic flowering provide high aesthetic appeal without the need for chemical growth stimulants.
• Planting Efficiency: When planning landscapes, the narrow crown allows for tighter planting intervals, streamlining high-density greening tasks.

Once established, 'Cherokee' does not require complex irrigation systems, although it benefits from root-zone watering during prolonged droughts. When selecting a planting site, exposure to sunlight is recommended to maximize the decorative potential of the foliage and ensure uniform crown development around the entire periphery.
