'Toito' is a complex winter barley hybrid of German origin (Secobra Recherches S.A.S.), registered in Ukraine in 2023. Designed specifically for the malting industry, this variety requires precise management to ensure grain quality, protein levels, and uniformity.

Cultivation and Management Practices

The hybrid is well-suited for the Forest-Steppe and Polissya regions. With its semi-erect habit and high growth potential, 'Toito' requires careful density management to prevent lodging and ensure optimal ear development.

• Sowing Strategy: Adhere to standard winter barley sowing windows. Proper seed placement is essential to achieve a uniform stand, which is critical for consistent grain filling in the six-row ear structure.
• Nutrient Management: As a malting variety, nitrogen application must be carefully balanced. Excessive late-season nitrogen can spike protein content, rendering the grain unsuitable for malting. Focus on early-stage fertilization to support initial growth and tillering.
• Crop Protection: The dense, cylindrical ear morphology necessitates proactive fungicide applications. Protecting the crop during the heading and grain-filling stages is vital to prevent fungal infections that could compromise the integrity of the lemma and palea.
