Description VOLZHISKY PERVY
Volzhisky Pervy is a winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety characterized by medium maturity and multi-rowedness. It is intended for grain and fodder use and is recommended for cultivation in the Middle Volga region, including the Ulyanovsk region. The variety is distinguished by medium plant height, yellow ear, and grain of medium size with a white aleurone layer. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 30 to 45 grams, and the protein content in the grain is from 8 to 16%, depending on the agro-climatic conditions.

Volzhisky Pervy has high yield, which in the recommended cultivation zone reaches an average of 46.2 centners/ha, while maximum yield indicators can reach 104 centners/ha. Studies showed that the optimal sowing rate is 6 million viable seeds per hectare, which ensures a yield of up to 4.47 tons/ha. The variety demonstrates good tillering ability, high field germination, and plant preservation until harvest.

The variety is moderately susceptible to septoria but more sensitive to powdery mildew, snow mold, and scald. Lodging resistance is at a level not exceeding standards by more than 1 point. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptation to northern conditions of the Middle Volga region, Volzhisky Pervy is a reliable choice for grain and fodder production in these climatic zones.
