Barley Novosadski 448

Serbian breeding for stable yields

The «Novosadski 448» barley from the renowned Serbian institute IFVCNS (Novi Sad) represents a model of classical European breeding, adapted for intensive agriculture. Development of this variety focused on overcoming critical risk factors faced by farmers during periods of unstable spring weather. As a spring variety, it demonstrates phenomenal plasticity for its class, effectively utilizing a short vegetation period of 80–90 days.

Agronomic indicators and protection

The main feature of this model is the combination of early maturity with high viability. In field conditions, «Novosadski 448» has proven itself as a crop with a serious genetic barrier against common pathogens:

• High tolerance to helminthosporiosis, which helps reduce fungicide application.
• Strong resistance to powdery mildew, preventing premature wilting of the leaf apparatus.

Particular attention should be paid to the winter-hardiness rating, which is evaluated at 8 points. For a spring crop, this is a unique marker, indicating the plant's ability to withstand sharp temperature fluctuations and spring frosts that often occur after early sowing. Such biological reliability makes the variety a «safety policy» for farms operating in regions with unpredictable climates.

Market position

Today, IFVCNS products occupy a niche of reliable «European standards». «Novosadski 448» is chosen by farmers who prioritize predictable results and crop purity. The rapid progression through growth phases minimizes the risks of summer drought impact, making this variety highly sought after in regions with soil moisture deficits during the second half of the season.
