Barley Odessa 131 / Odes'kyi 131

Reliability in the field

Odeskyi 131 winter barley is a choice for those who prefer predictable yields without unnecessary agronomic complications. Developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute (National Center for Seed and Cultivar Research), this variety focuses on consistency. It handles the challenges of the Ukrainian climate effectively, demonstrating strong resistance to helminthosporiosis and covered smut. In real-world farming conditions, this translates into reduced expenditure on fungicide treatments and a healthy, predictable state of the crop after winter dormancy.

Agronomic indicators and field management

• Type: two-row winter barley.
• Vegetation period: 90–100 days, allowing for easy scheduling of the harvest.
• Plant height: 100–110 cm — an optimal height for machinery operations, featuring dense straw with high lodging resistance.
• 1000-grain weight: 42–44 grams, which simplifies seeder calibration and ensures uniform emergence.

This variety is highly manageable. Thanks to the uniformity of the ears and optimal plant height, the combine harvester header operates smoothly without clogging or excessive grain loss. The crop does not require complex or expensive protection schemes — standard pest control is sufficient. For the operator, this means simplified field maintenance and eliminates the need for constant remedial treatments against common fungal diseases.
