Mauritia

Spring barley variety Mauritia is intended for high-intensity farming and is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine. This variety is included in the State Register based on the results of two-year trials. Over three years of variety trials, the average yield was 6.84 t/ha, which is 14-20 % higher than the standard (variety Komandor). The maximum recorded yield reached 9.41 t/ha. Mauritia belongs to mid-early maturing varieties with a vegetation period of 72-75 days and is characterized by a dense, strong stem of 72-75 cm height, resistant to lodging and shattering. The variety exhibits high resistance (8-9 points) to diseases such as powdery mildew and stripe rust. The ear is two-rowed, long (10-12 cm), loose, with 11-12 nodes per 4 cm of ear stem, straw-yellow in color and cylindrical in shape. The awns are long, serrated, thin, and elastic. The grain is large and uniform (94-96 %), yellow, oblong-elliptical in shape, with a 1000-grain weight of 48-54 g. Protein content in the grain reaches 10.5 %, and extractability is 78-80 %. For growing the variety Mauritia, standard agronomic practices with mandatory fertilizer application are recommended. Due to its high economic qualities, such as high yield, large grain size, and disease resistance, this variety can be used as breeding material for barley selection. Mauritia is a valuable brewing variety, expanding its application possibilities in agriculture and food industry.
