Svyatomykhailivskyi — this is a medium-maturing cereal barley variety belonging to the steppe ecotype and characterized by a semi-intensive growth type. Developed by the Institute of Steppe Agriculture of NAAN and Kirovohrad State Agricultural Research Station of NAAN, this variety was included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2013–2014. Recommended cultivation zones include steppe, forest-steppe, and polissia, indicating its high adaptability to various climatic conditions. Plants reach a height of 80–90 cm, with a semi-erect bush, and the maturity period is approximately 88–90 days.
The ear is two-rowed, long (9–10 cm), medium density, cylindrical in shape, with yellow straw coloration. Glumes are long, thin, elastic, serrated, and parallel, with moderate anthocyanin pigmentation at the tips. The grain is large, elongated-elliptical, thin-wrinkled, and yellow. The 1000-grain weight ranges from 42–45 g. The straw is slightly hollow, and ear drooping and breakage are minimal, enhancing resistance to lodging.
Svyatomykhailivskyi is distinguished by high drought resistance, resistance to lodging, and resistance to major leaf and stem diseases, including false powdery mildew and helminthosporiosis. Protein content in the grain ranges from 12.8–13.9%, an important quality indicator. The potential yield of the variety reaches 7.3–8.1 t/ha, making it attractive for cultivation under variable climatic conditions. The recommended seeding rate is 4.0–4.5 million viable seeds per hectare, and agronomic practices correspond to standard requirements for the cultivation zones.
