LG Tosca

LG Tosca barley is a high-yielding spring variety intended for cultivation in various climatic zones, including the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polесье. It is characterized by a stable harvest period and high grain quality, making it popular in agriculture for producing high-quality cereal crops, as well as for brewing purposes. The vegetation period of the variety ranges from 69 to 95 days, allowing for flexible sowing dates depending on regional climatic conditions.

LG Tosca plants have a medium height ranging from 40 to 69 cm and large grains with uniformity from 88.7 to 92.3%. Protein content in the grain ranges from 11.1–11.7%, which corresponds to low-protein quality, important for the brewing industry. The ears are large, with a grain size of 67–75%, contributing to high yield. For optimal growth, seed sowing depth is recommended at 2–3 cm and seeding rate at 4.5–5.0 million seeds per hectare.

The variety exhibits high resistance to major diseases and pests: powdery mildew is rated 7–8, rust 5–8, and helminthosporium 6–8, and also resistant to stem borers (7–9). Additionally, LG Tosca demonstrates good drought resistance (8), lodging resistance (7–9), and tolerance to other stress conditions. To achieve maximum yield, timely fertilizer application and two fungicide treatments during the vegetation period are recommended. Early sowing, no later than three days after soil maturation, promotes better plant development and stable yield.
