Stability and Performance: Operating the MIP Azart Variety

For agronomists planning their crop rotation, MIP Azart has proven to be a highly predictable tool. Developed by the Myronivka Institute of Wheat, this spring barley is a classic intensive variety that performs reliably under standard agricultural practices. With a plant height of 60-70 cm, the variety exhibits excellent uniformity, which simplifies combine harvester adjustments significantly—headers run smoothly, and harvesting losses are kept to a minimum.

A Biological Shield in the Field

The primary advantage of operating this variety is its inherent resilience to disease. In conditions of high humidity, where competing crops often succumb to fungal pressure, MIP Azart maintains a strong defense. The variety possesses a genetically engineered resistance against a wide range of threats:

• Helminthosporium and brown leaf spot pose no significant risk, even in wet seasons.
• Dwarf leaf rust, mycosphaerella, and powdery mildew are effectively neutralized by the plant’s natural immunity.
• Loose smut and other cereal smuts do not require emergency corrective treatments.

This biological resistance allows for a reduction in fungicide applications, directly lowering the cost of production per ton of grain.

Yield and Grain Quality

With a vegetation period of 80-90 days, the variety offers flexibility in harvest planning. The grain is plump and well-developed, with a 1,000-seed weight ranging between 40 and 48 grams, ensuring high commodity output. The protein content (nitrogenous substances) remains stable at 11-12%, making it highly sought after in both the animal feed and malting industries.

Although classified as spring barley, its overall hardiness is impressive: winter hardiness ratings of 8-9 points underline the genotype's extreme durability. Managing these fields requires minimal intervention, allowing for an efficient and predictable production cycle.
