NUTANS 278

The spring barley variety NUTANS 278 was created at the Krasnokutskaya Breeding Experimental Station of the Southern-Eastern Institute of Agriculture (NIISKh) and included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements since 2004. This mid-season variety belongs to the NUTANS group and is characterized by a two-rowed ear of straw-yellow color with long awned awns. The grain is large, with a mass of 1000 grains ranging from 44 to 53 grams, with a bare base and bristly awns. The plant is medium-height, with a semi-upright bush and a cylindrical loose ear, which ensures ease of harvesting and processing.

NUTANS 278 is distinguished by high drought resistance and the ability to form large grain even in harsh conditions, which makes it particularly valuable for steppe and Middle-Volga regions, including the Saratov region and the Kalmykia Republic. The variety bushes well, has medium or above-average resistance to lodging and diseases, as well as high adaptability to various agro-climatic conditions. The yield of the variety consistently exceeds standard regional varieties by 10-12%, which is confirmed by the results of trials.

In addition to high productivity, NUTANS 278 has good grain feed qualities, with a protein content of about 13.8% and lysine of 4.62 g/kg, which makes it in demand for fodder use. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Lower Volga region and other similar agro-climatic zones. Seeds of the variety are available in bulk from the manufacturer with corresponding quality certificates, which ensures the reliability and efficiency of the seed material.
