The F1 hybrid from the Dutch breeding company Limgroup B.V. is a benchmark for efficiency for growers focused on early yields. The core advantage of this variety lies in its male-type genetics: 100% of the plants are male, which eliminates the plant's energy expenditure on seed production. All metabolic energy is directed exclusively toward the development of robust, marketable spears.

Field performance and resilience

Gijnlim demonstrates high plasticity across various agro-climatic zones. Due to its very early maturity, the peak harvest period occurs when the soil still retains sufficient moisture, which is critical for producing high-quality white asparagus.

• Stress tolerance: The plant exhibits high resistance to Fusarium and asparagus rust — the primary threats to commercial plantations. This significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications.
• Structural integrity: Despite the long stems, the plant develops a dense structure with moderate phylloclade density, ensuring excellent airflow and reducing the risk of fungal infections in dense plantings.
• Adaptability: The hybrid responds exceptionally well to intensive cultivation techniques, including the use of plastic tunnels or agro-textiles. This allows growers to advance the harvest season by 10–14 days, hitting the market when prices are at their peak.

Gijnlim spears are characterized by tight, closed tips that do not tend to open prematurely, even during short-term temperature spikes. The triangular shape of the tip and the uniform diameter along the stem make this variety a favorite for retail, where calibration and product aesthetics are paramount.
