TOLUNA

The Toluнай apple variety was bred at the M.A. Lisavenko Siberian Horticulture Research Institute in Gorno-Altaysk through seed sowing from open pollination. The tree is medium-sized with a round, moderately dense crown, high resistance to scab, and medium winter hardiness, making it suitable for cultivation in the Siberian climate. Drought resistance is average, while recovery ability after severe winters is high. The tree is compact, allowing it to coexist easily with other plants in the garden.

Toluнай apple fruits have a widely conical or flat-round shape, weighing from 75 to 130 grams, with a golden-yellow base color and dark red striped skin. The fruit skin is oily with a dull waxy bloom; the flesh is creamy, medium-density, tender, fine-grained, and juicy. The taste is sweet-and-sour, dessert-type, with a bright aroma, confirmed by a high tasting score of about 4.7-4.8 points. Fruits ripen in late August to early September and withstand transportation and storage for up to one and a half months.

The Toluнай variety is characterized by high yield, which increases over time and can reach up to 36.4 tons per hectare. Fruiting begins on the 4th-5th year after planting, with a mixed type of fruiting. Apples are of universal purpose, suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for making juice and jam. Due to good disease resistance and quality fruit characteristics, the variety requires proper care and soil selection to achieve maximum productivity.
